Odisha reports record 32 deaths in a single day, 11,059 new cases
Bhubaneswar: Odisha reported 32 deaths and 11,059 Covid cases in the past 24 hours, pushing the total Covid tally in the state to 7,03,441 with 2516 fatalities.

Sources said this is the highest number of Covid deaths registered in the state in a single day.

Khordha district reported a maximum number of six deaths, followed by four each each in Ganjam and Jharsuguda, three each in Angul, Sundargarh and Kalahandi and two each in Puri and Gajapati district. One person each died in five other districts.

In the past 24 hours, 11,059 fresh cases were reported from 30 districts. They included 6193 from the quarantine centres and 4866 local contact cases.

Cuttack district reported the highest number of 1133 cases, followed by Khordha (1010), Angul (859), Sundargarh ( 729) and Mayurbhanj (662).

For the sixth consecutive day, the state reported more than 11000 Covid positive cases.

For the first time, the single-day recovery surpassed the single-day positive cases in the state on Sunday. While 11,627 people were recovered from the virus, taking the total recoveries in the state to 5,89,610, as many as 11,059 were tested positive.

The active cases continue to remain over one lakh for the last 12 days. It declined marginally from 111862 on Saturday to 1,11,262 on Sunday.

Meanwhile, the state government has relaxed the lockdown in ten coastal Odisha districts likely to be affected by Cyclone Yaas.

As per the new guidelines, the government has extended the relaxation time from 7 AM to 1 PM for two days on May 24 and May 25 instead of 7 AM to 11M to allow the people to buy essential commodities in view of the cyclone Yass, which likely to hit the Odisha and West Bengal coasts in the afternoon of May 26.

A release from state police headquarter said a total of 1091 tankers/containers carrying 20007.336 MT medical oxygen have so far been dispatched under escort and supervision of Odisha Police to 15 deficit districts.

During last 31 days, as many as 100 tankers were dispatched from Angul with 1611.582 MT, 265 from Dhenkanal with 4269.5 MT, 252 from Jajpur with 5166.327 MT and 474 from Rourkela with 8959.927 MT.
