Odisha Covid tally rises to 72,718; Toll mounts to 390

Bhubaneswar: Corona infected cases continued to rise in Odisha as 2,698 people tested positive during the last 24 hours taking the total tally to 72,718. At the same time ten more covid patients in the state died raising the death toll to 390.
State Health and Family Welfare department sources said 1675 people from the quarantine centres and 1023 local contact cases tested Covid positive in the 30 districts of the state taking the total covid positive cases in the state to 72,728 Out of the ten fresh casualties reported in Odisha during the last 24 hours, Ganjam district accounted for four deaths followed by Khordha ( 2) and one each in Angul, Koraput, Sonepur and Nayagarh district.
The ten fresh deaths included six males and four females. Four of them were in the age group of above 60 years , five in the age group of 40 to 60 years and the rest one was 35 years old.
Of the 2698 new cases reported in the state Khordha district reported maximum number of 475 cases followed by Cuttack(207) ,Ganjam(154),Koraput ( 146), Mayurbhanj( 128),Sundargarh (103) and Balasore(102)
Ganjam district, a major hot spot for coronavirus which used to register the highest number of positive cases, active cases and also covid casualties, has been showing a decline trend in the detection of covid cases in the past few days.
The district has been relegated to third position in the detection of number of covid cases daily as Khordha and Cuttack district have jumped to first and second position respectively.
Sources said with the recovery of 1641 Covid patients on Thursday, the total recovery has gone up to 48,576, about 66.8 per cent of the total Covid cases in the state.
Till midnight of August 20, as many as 11,72,426 samples have been tested in the state and 72,718 of them were found infected with coronavirus of which 23,699 are active cases now under treatment in various Covid hospitals in the state.
The virus 19 has so far claimed 390 lives while 53 more covid patients have also died due to reasons other than Covid.
