Bhawanipatna: Death of elephants in the Karlapat Wildlife Sanctuary in Odisha’s Kalahandi district continues unabated as another female elephant died, today.
The pachyderm reportedly died due to septicemia. With this, the toll mounted to 6 during the last 14 days.
It is being suspected by the Forest Department officials that hemorrhagic septicemia might be the reason behind the death of elephants. The deaths have been reported from near Ghusurigudi drain in the sanctuary.
The Forest department has sent an expert team to the protected area to find out the reason behind the deaths.
The team, headed by Prof Niranjan Sahu, from Centre for Wildlife Health of Odisha University of Agriculture and Technology (OUAT) inspected the area on Saturday.
