Bhubaneswar: Adding another feather to its cap, the All India Institute of Medical Sciences (AIIMS), Bhubaneswar, has once again earned recognition in the country for ensuring cleanliness and providing a safe environment to the patients.
The AIIMS Bhubaneswar has won first prize in the Kayakalp awards for cleanliness (2019-20) in B Category and received a cash reward of Rs 2 crore. Union Health Minister Dr Harsh Vardhan presented the award to the institute in a virtual ceremony on January 12 2021 in New Delhi.
The hospital has been successfully winning the award for the past three years. In 2018-19 and 2017-18, the institute bagged second place in B Category with Rs 1 crore prize money.
In District Headquarters Hospital (DHH) category, Angul DHH has been awarded as the Kayakalp Winner Hospital and Kalahandi DHH as Runners Up Hospital.
The Kayakalp awards, instituted by the Government of India as part of the Swachh Bharat Abhiyan, is an initiative to recognize and felicitate public health facilities that demonstrate high levels of cleanliness, hygiene, and infection control measure and promote cleanliness in public spaces. Under the Kayakalp initiative, Swachhata guidelines have been issued to evaluate central Government health facilities’ performance in the domains of hospital/facility upkeep, sanitation and hygiene, waste management, infection control, support services, and hygiene promotion.
