Amid Covid India all set for puja, polls

New Delhi, With Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s “active participation” in the Durga Puja commencing Thursday (Mahashasthi) , and ongoing campaign for the Bihar Assembly elections a week away, India has embarked on a “twin strategy” to ‘punch’ the pandemic. The Prime Minister, who exhorted the people on Tuesday not to rush to the conclusion that Coronavirus had been won, will inaugurate 10 Pujas in Bengal online on Thursday. The PM will also address Puja revellers virtually in select Pandals in Bengal tomorrow. This will be first time when a PM will interact with Bengalis over Durga Puja taking time from his busy schedule.Incidentally, the Calcutta High Court will hear the petitions on Wednesday seeking review of the Court order on Monday directing the Bengal government to treat all pandals as “no-entry-zones.”Informatively, even as the downward curve of Covid-19 cases in the country continued on Tuesday, the daily cases in Bengal touched the 4,000-mark for the first time during the pandemic. With 4,029 cases being reported in the past 24 hours, the number of active cases in the state is now 35,170.Meanwhile, campaigns, both physical and virtual, are going on “full swing” in Bihar where voting will also be held on November 3 and 7, besides October 28.
