Tirunelveli, The Crime Branch CID (CB-CID) police on Wednesday took over the probe into the abduction and murder of a 32-year-old man allegedly involving an Inspector of Police and a functionary of AIADMK at Thattarmadam in neighbouring Thoothukudi district on September 17.Police sources said Deputy Superintendent of Police (DSP) Prakash, who was the investigation officer in the case, handed over the case files to the CB-CID DSP Anil Kumar. Six special teams, each comprising five CB-CID police personnel, led by Anil Kumar would probe the case. T Selvan, a resident of Chinnakudiyiruppu village in Thoothukudi district was abducted and beaten to death by a gang as he refused to sell his land to Thoothukudi South District Secretary of AIADMK’s Commerce Wing M.Thirumanavel at Thattarmadam. Based on a complaint from T.Elizabeth, mother of Selvan that Thattarmadam Police Inspector Harikrishnan had orchestrated the murder with the help of Thirumanavel, the Thisaiyanvilai police had registered a case against Harikrishnan, Thirumanavel and four others under Sections 302, 364, 120b, 148 and 147 of the IPC. The Deputy Inspector General of Police (Tirunelveli region) Praveen Kumar Abinapu ordered the suspension of Harikrishnan on Monday, after he was booked in the murder case. Subsequently, Tamil Nadu Director General of Police J.K.Tripathy transferred the murder case to the CB-CID probe.The AIADMK expelled Thirumanavel from the primary membership of the party for bringing disrepute to the party.While Thirumanavel and his associate Muthukrishnan surrendered before a Judicial Magistrate Court in Saidapet at Chennai on Monday, the police have so far arrested two more accused Chinnadurai and Muthuramalingam in the case.
