Bengaluru: Karnataka will get 13,90,000 vials of vaccine for Covid-19 by Saturday and it will be available in all the districts by Monday, Minister for Health Dr K Sudhakar said on Friday.
Thanking the Union Government for considering Karnataka for distribution of the vaccine in the first phase of its availability, the minister said that he was in Chikkaballapur to oversee the dry run of the vaccination second phase today and preparedness of PHCs, Health Centres, Private Hospitals etc, to administer the vaccine.
Claiming that the state is fully prepared to receive and effectively distribute the vaccine to one and all, he said that the state is expected to receive 13,90,000 vials of vaccine doses and it will be distributed to all the districts.
The minister said that the vaccination will be first administered to health care workers. “We have registered 6.30 lakh healthcare workers in the state. Those who are left out maybe in some medical or dental colleges, we have requested them to register. Health workers will be followed by those with comorbidities, those above 60 years and those in other departments like police and revenue working against the pandemic.”
COVID-19 vaccination dry run was held at 263 PHCs across the state, including 24 district hospitals, 20 medical colleges, 43 taluk hospitals, 31 community health centres, 87 primary health centres, 30 urban primary health centres and 28 private hospitals.
The first round of the dry run, an exercise for end- to-end testing of COVID-19 vaccination process was held in in five districts of Karnataka- Bengaluru (including BBMP), Belagavi, Kalburgi, Mysore and Shivamogga- on December 2 as per the government of India guidelines.
