COVID snatches away lives of 69 more, death toll mounts to 5703

Bhubaneswar: For the third time Odisha reported the highest -number of 69 deaths in the past 24 hours taking the total covid fatalities in the state to 5703.

Earlier on July 20 and July 22,the state reported a record 69 covid deaths.Since July 8 last the state has been witnessing over 60 covid deaths daily.

Health and Family Welfare department sources said 69 covid patients under treatment in sixteen districts succumbed to the virus in the past 24 hours.

Khordha district registered the highest number of 14 deaths followed by Sundargarh( 10),Angul ( 9), Jharsuguda(5) and four each in Bargarh, Sambalpur and Puri district.

Official sources said in the past 24 hours 1703 new cases including 988 from the quarantine centres and 715 local contact cases, were reported from all the 30 districts.

Khordha district reported a maximum number of 386 new cases followed by Cuttack(240),Kendrapara(149) and Puri (139).The rest 26 other districts in the state registered less than 100 cases each.

The Test Positivity Rate(TPR) of Odisha which has been recording between 2.5 to 2.9 percent for past few days declined to 2.1 percent Wednesday as out of 78,740 tests conducted in the state in the past 24 hours,1703 tested covid positive.

While the total covid tally in the state surged to 9,72,517 with 1703 new cases already 9,49,350 have been cured so far and the active cases further reduced to 17,411.

Four coastal districts have recorded active cases more than one 1000.They are Khordha(4509),Cuttack( 2193), Balasore(1117) and Jajpur( 1037).

These four districts together accounted for 39.37 per cent of the total active cases in the state.
