Daily Covid load dips below 3k-mark for 2nd consecutive day

Bhubaneswar: Odisha reported 2,870 new covid cases in the past 24 hours, taking the tally to 9,21,896 while 42 more covid patients died pushing the total fatalities in the state to 4,196.

For the second consecutive day today, the state reported a daily covid load less than 3,000. Earlier on June 21, 24 and 28 less than 3,000 new cases were registered in the state.

Since April 16 Odisha has been witnessing a rise in covid cases over the 3,000-mark and touched a record high of 12,852 on May 22.

Official sources said in the past 24 hours, 1,652 new cases were reported from the quarantine centres and 1,218 local contact cases from all 30 districts.

Cuttack district reported the highest number of 440 cases followed by Khordha (384) and Balasore (240). As many as 27 districts in the state reported less than 200 positive cases during the period.

Sources said nine districts have recorded the Test Positivity Rate (TPR) between 5 to 7.5 per cent while the 21 other districts have been declared as Green Zone with the TPR less than 5 per cent.

The total recovery from the disease rose to 8,87,420 after 3,158 more people recovered from the virus on Saturday.

The active cases have further come down to 30,227. At least three districts in the state accounted for 12,531 active cases, almost 41.45 per cent of the total reported in the state so far.

They are Khordha (5,144) followed by Cuttack (4,387) and Balasore (3,000).

Health and Family Welfare department sources said out of 42 fatalities reported in the state in the past 24 hours, the Khordha district alone accounted for eight deaths followed by five in Bargarh and 4 in Sundargarh.

Three each died in Sambalpur, Angul, Ganjam and Jharsuguda while two each succumbed to the virus in six other districts and one died in only one district.
