Farmers are soul of Punjab: Sidhu

New Delhi: Punjab MLA and former cabinet minister Navjot Singh Sidhu on Friday said that farmers are the ‘soul’ of Punjab and will not tolerate any attack on our ‘existence.’ “The farmers are the soul of Punjab. The wounds of the body are healed, but the soul always leaps on to become a canker. We will not bear any blows on our soul and existence”, Mr Sidhu tweeted in Hindi.
He further said that Punjab, Punjabiyat and every Punjabi is standing shoulder to shoulder with the farmers.
Notably, this was Sidhu’s first tweet after resigning from the Punjab cabinet last year.
His comments came a day after Shiromani Akali Dal leader and Union Minister for Food Processing Harsimrat Kaur Badal tendered resignation from the Union cabinet over the government’s decision to bring farmer ordinances and legislations in Parliament. Her resignation was accepted by the President Ram Nath Kovind on Friday. The Amritsar MLA, in an another tweet slammed the Centre for passing the alleged “anti-farmer bill” in Parliament. “Governments have been committing the same mistake since ages. The dust was on their face and they kept cleaning the mirror”, the legislator wrote.
