Gavaskar felicitated by BCCI on 50th anniversary of his Test debut

Ahmedabad: Cricket icon Sunil Gavaskar was felicitated by the BCCI on the 50th anniversary of his Test debut here at the Narendra Modi Stadium on Saturday.

The former India skipper was presented with a commemorative Test cap from BCCI Secretary Jay Shah during the lunch break of the fourth and the final Test here.

On this day in 1971, the erstwhile opening batsman made his international debut against the mighty West Indies in Port-of-Spain and helped India win the match by 7 wickets with his 65 runs in the first innings and 67 unbeaten knock in the second innings. India had won the series 1-0.

During his 16 years illustrious career, he represented India in 125 Tests, 108 ODIs and scored 10,122 and 3,092 runs, respectively.

He was also part of 1983 World Cup-winning team.
