India logs 2.59 lakh new nCoV cases, 4.2k deaths

New Delhi: India reported 2,59,551 new cases of the Novel Coronavirus in the past 24 hours, taking the total number of infections to 2,60,31,991, according to the Union Health Ministry data updated on Friday.

Besides, the country also saw 4,209 more fatalities due to the virus, pushing the toll to 2,91,331. On Thursday, the country saw 3,874 deaths.

The active caseload in the country is 30,27,925 comprising 11.63 per cent of the total infections while 2,27,12,735 people have recovered from disease so far amounting 87.25 per cent of the recovery rate.

According to the Indian Council of Medical Research (ICMR), 32,44,17,870 samples have been tested so far for coronavirus, of which 20,61,683 tests were conducted in the past one day, the highest tests done in one day.

Meanwhile, the case fatality rate is 1.12 per cent.

On the vaccination front, total 19,18,79,503 people have been vaccinated across the country till now, of which 14,82,754 doses administered in the past 24 hours.

Maharashtra, which has been the most-affected state in the country, saw highest 984 deaths in the past 24 hours, followed by Karnataka (548), Tamil Nadu (397), UP (236), Delhi (233), Punjab (191), West Bengal (162), Uttarakhand (159), Haryana (129) and Kerala (128), Rajasthan (127), Andhra Pradesh (114) and Chhattisgarh (113).
