Bhubaneswar: Odisha may witness heavy showers in next few days due to a low pressure area brewing over the Bay of Bengal.
A low pressure area is likely to develop over Northeast Bay of Bengal and neighbourhood around 20th September. This could bring heavy rainfall over several districts of Odisha till September 22, according to Bhubaneswar MeT.
The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has predicted enhanced rainfall activity over Odisha from September 19 upto next three days. The weathermen have issued yellow and orange warnings for several districts during the period.
Day 1 (valid from Sept 19 morning till Sept 20 morning): Yellow warning: Heavy rainfall very likely to occur at isolated places over the districts of Malkangiri, Koraput, Nabarangpur and Rayagada.
Day 2 (valid from Sept 20 morning toll Sept 21 morning) : Orange warning: Heavy to very Heavy rainfall very likely to occur at isolated places over the districts of Malkangiri, Koraput, Nabarangpur, Ganjam and Puri.
Day 3 (valid from Sept 21 morning till Sept 22 morning: Orange Warning: Heavy to very Heavy rainfall very likely to occur at isolated places over the districts of Sonepur, Sambalpur, Angul, Deogarh, Bargarh, Boudh, Jajpur, Bhadrak, and Kalahandi. Yellow Warning: Heavy rainfall very likely to occur at isolated places over the districts of Malkangiri, Koraput, Kandhamal, Jharsuguda, Sundargarh, Keonjhar, Dhenkanal, Cuttack, Kendrapada, Jagatsinghpur, Balasore and Mayurbhanj. Due to possible formation of a low pressure area over Northeast Bay of Bengal and neighbourhood, squally weather surface wind speed reaching 45-55 kmph is likely over Northeast and adjoining eastcentral Bay of Bengal on September 20 and also squally weather surface wind speed reaching 45-55 kmph likely over North Bay of Bengal and Westcentral Bay of Bengal off Odisha
coast from September 21. The fishermen are advised not to venture into deep sea areas of Northeast adjoining eastcentral Bay of Bengal on September 20, also along and off Odisha coast, North Bay of Bengal adjoining West Central Bay of Bengal during September 21 and 22. Meanwhile, the thunderstorm and lightning are in the forecast for several districts from September 17 afternoon till September 19 morning. According to a special weather bulletin by Bhubaneswar MeT, thunderstorm with lightning very likely to occur at one or two places over the districts of Malkangiri, Koraput, Nabarangpur, Kalahandi, Balangir, Nuapada, Bargarh, Sambalpur, Jharsuguda, Sundargarh, Deogarh, Keonjhar and Mayurbhanj between today and tomorrow morning.Similarly, thunderstorm with lightning very likely to occur at one or two places over the districts of Nabarangpur, Kalahandi, Kandhamal, Rayagada, Boudh, Nayagarh, Khurda, Angul, Dhenkanal, Cuttack, Keonjhar, Mayurbhanj, Balasore and Ganjam between September 18 and September 19 morning.
