Low Pressure: Red & Orange Warnings Issued

Bhubaneswar: With Low Pressure  area lying over northwest Bay of Bengal and adjoining north coastal Odisha, the India Meteorological Department (IMD) Regional Centre here has predicted heavy to very heavy rain in several districts across the state by issuing Red and Orange warnings.

As per a special bulletin issued by the weathermen,”The Low Pressure area over Northeast Bay of Bengal and neighbourhood lies over Northwest Bay of Bengal and adjoining north coastal Odisha with associated cyclonic circulation extending upto 7.6 km above mean sea level tilting south-westward with height. It is likely to move west-north-westward during next 2-3 days.”

The weathermen issued Red and Orange warning for the below districts till 8.30 AM of September 22.

Red Warning: 

Heavy to very heavy rainfall very likely to occur at a few places with extremely heavy rainfall at isolated places over the districts of Nabarangpur, Nuapada, Bargarh, Jharsuguda, and Balangir.

Impact:

1. Water logging in low lying areas and localized flash flood in some areas.

2. Some damage to kutcha house and informal road.

3. Landslides in hilly areas.

4. Traffic disruption, water logging in low lying areas and under pass road of urban areas.

5. Some Damage to horticulture and standing crops in some areas due to inundation.

Orange warning:

Heavy to very heavy rainfall very likely to occur at isolated places over the districts of Kalahandi, Malkangiri, Koraput, Sonepur, Sambalpur, Sundargarh, Deogarh and Keonjhar.

Impact:

1. Water logging in low lying areas.

2. Some damage to kutcha house and informal road.

3. Landslides in hilly areas.

4. Traffic disruption, water logging in low lying areas and under pass road of urban areaa

Yellow warning:

Heavy rainfall very likely to occur at isolated places over the districts of Rayagada, Kandhamal, Boudh,Angul, Dhenkanal, Mayurbhanj, Jajpur and Gajapati.

Besides, light to moderate rain or thundershower very likely to occur at most places over the districts Odisha.

Meanwhile, fishermen have been advised not to venture into the sea along and off Odisha coast till September 22.
