Odisha reports 3664 new Covid cases


Bhubaneswar: Odisha on Sunday reported 3664 new covid infection cases and two deaths in the past 24 hours taking the Covid tally in the state to 3,68,258 with 1944 fatalities.

Health and Family Welfare department sources said for the third consecutive day the state reported more than 3000 positive cases and as many as ten districts in the state registered more than 100 new cases.

Sundargarh district which continued to report the highest number of covid cases, slipped to second position today with 340 cases while Khordha district topped the district tally with a record 704 cases.

The other districts which crossed the 100 marks in the past 24 hours are Kalahandi (324),Nuapada (221), Bargarh (210),Sambalpur ( 199) , Cuttack (198), Jharsuguda (123) and Mayurbhanj ( 119).

Two covid patients succumbed to the virus while under treatment in the hospital in the past 24 hours. They included a 75 year old from Bargarh district and a 32 year old from Sundargarh district.

The state government has declared night curfew in all urban areas, municipalities, NACs across the state and complete weekend shutdown in the urban areas in ten districts bordering Chhattisgarh and Andhra Pradesh.

Besides night curfew, the Commissionerate of police has promulgated prohibitory orders under section 144CrPc in the twin cities of Bhubaneswar and Cuttack from 9 PM to 5 AM.

Meanwhile,the Odisha Special Relief Commissioner (SRC) has advised all District and Municipal Commissioners to contact all persons who have visited Kumbha mela in Uttarakhand and asked them to get RT-PCR tested before boarding train or flight to Odisha.

The Collectors and Municipal Commissioners have been shared with a list of persons who have registered with Uttarakhand Government for participating in Kumbh Mela by SRC.

All Collectors and Municipal Commissioners were directed to contact all these persons and find out their location, travel plan and advise them to do the RT-PCR test before boarding the train/ flight to Odisha.

All such persons must be personally tracked, their health condition monitored. All of them shall be directed to quarantine them for 14 days at home or in Cluster TMCs, the SRC circular said.

If Covid like symptoms are noticed, these people should be immediately attended to. The ASHA and Anganwadi workers must visit them regularly in home /TMCs and monitor their health conditions, the order said.

All such persons have to be advised to voluntarily self isolate them and report to BDO/ Municipal/ NAC officers/ PHC/ CHC concerned about their condition and strictly comply with the covid protocols.

The Collectors and Municipal Commissioners,the SRC said should report to the Health Department and SRC office on this issue on a daily basis, the SRC said.
