Bhubaneswar: Covid 19 has claimed nine more lives while 1337 people were infected with coronavirus in Odisha during the last 24 hours.Health and Family Welfare department sources here said the covid toll jumped to 225 while the covid tally surged to 39,018 in the state today.Among the nine covid deaths reported in the state, Ganjam district alone accounted for five casualties while one each died from Sundargarh, Keonjhar, Khordha and Gajapati district.At the same time two more covid patients, one each from Malkangir and Cuttack districtalso died but due to reasons other than Covid raising the non covid deaths in the state to 44.Sources said a 54 year old male of Malkangiri district died due to Acute on Chronic Kidney Disease with Uremic Encephalopathy while one year old male child of Cuttack district passed away due to Gastrointestinal Hemorrhage, Hemolytic Anemia & sepsis.During the last 24 hours 1337 covid positive cases were detected from 28 districts.They included 815 from the quarantine centres and rest 522 as local contact cases.As usual, Ganjam district registered the highest number of 201 positive cases followed by Khordha(196),Cuttack (168),Sundargarh ( 83),Keonjhar ( 80) ,Gajapati (75),Sambalpur (72) and Nayagarh (60).Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik, has yet appealed to people of Odisha to join a silent prayer at 6PM today for the covid warriors who have laid down their lives in the fight against COVID-19 in the state.In a message to the 4.5 crore brothers and sisters of Odisha, Mr.Patnaik said the covid warriors have sacrificed hugely to keep the rest of us safe and some have also sacrificed their lives in this deadly fight.In order to commemorate their supreme sacrifice and dedication for which we are going to achieve the recovery figure of 25,000, Mr.Patnaik appealed to 4.5 crore sisters and brothers of Odisha to join a silent prayer at 6 PM on August 5.This will be followed by an oath taking that will remind all of us to act responsibly and strictly follow the Covid guidelines to keep ourselves and our families safe, the Chief minister said. Meanwhile, with a record recovery of 1409 covid patients yesterday, the recovery figure in Odisha has gone up to 24,482.The Health and Family Welfare department has congratulated to the SCB team of Plasma Bank for Collecting more than 100 units of plasma.Taking to the tweeter,the department said “We urge all eligible #COVID19 recovered persons to come forward and donate plasma and further strengthen our fight to #SaveLives. #DonatePlasma.Sources said so far 5,85,505 samples have been tested in Odisha and 39,018 of them found with covid positive.While 24482 covid patients have been recovered till date,14266 active cases are under treatment in various covid hospitals.Covid had claimed 225 lives and 44 covid patients have died due to reasons other than covid and 14349 people are in hospital isolation.
