Pink Test, Day 1: India crawl to 107/3 at tea against Australia

Adelaide: India were 107/3 at the end of second session of Day 1 of the 1st Test of the 4-match series against Australia, here at the Adelaide Oval on Thursday.

Skipper Virat Kohli was unbeaten on 39 off 111 balls along with his deputy – Ajinkya Rahane (2* off 20) at the crease.

Resuming at 41/2 after the break, India scored 66 runs for the loss of 1 wicket in 30 overs during the intense second session.

Kohli and Cheteshwar Pujara stitched a 68-run stand for the third wicket before the latter was dismissed by Nathan Lyon, less than 20 minutes before the end of the second session. Pujara walked back after scoring a gritty 160-ball 43.

Earlier in the first session, after winning the toss and opting to bat first, India started off in the worst possible fashion as Prithvi Shaw was cleaned up for a second ball duck by Mitchell Starc.

Cheteshwar Pujara came out to next to bat. Both, Mayank Agarwal and Pujara then negotiated the first hour of the day.

Mayank Agarwal looked confident during his stay at the crease, but Pat Cummins cleaned him up with a peach of a delivery.
