Police arrest five-member gang, seize deadly weapons

Puducherry: Police on Sunday night arrested a five member gang at Lawspet and seized deadly weapons and gunpowder from their possession.

According to police, on a tip off, the North crime police along with Lawspet crime police surrounded an area at Sapthagiri Nagar in Lawspet and caught five persons who were hiding in a bush.

Sickles, knives and gun powder used to make country made bombs were seized from their possession.

On interrogation, they revealed that they were planning to kill a rowdy Raghu in that area.

The five were identified as Balaji (25), Ayyappan (19), Vijay (19) ,Prasad (19) and Bhaskar (18).

Balaji and Raghu had a quarrel a few days back and they exchanged blows. Following this, Balaji got information that Raghu is planning to kill him and decided to kill Raghu before he could attack him, police said.

Following this, police registered cases against them under five sections, including violation of lockdown rules and illegal assembly, carrying deadly weapons and gun powder and hatching murder plan and all the five were arrested.

The arrested persons were sent for Covid-19 test and after getting the results, they will be produced before a court here and will be lodged in the central prison.
