Puducherry, Former AICC president Rahul Gandhi on Wednesday visited Sholainagar here and interacted with the fisherwomen in the village.Speaking on the occasion, he pointed the union government passing three farm laws with which the farmers are feeling tremendous pain and disturbances. Mr Gandhi substantiated his reference to farmers amongst fisherwomen by stating that farmers are the backbone of the country and he consider fishermen as the farmers of the sea.Taking several questions from the fisherwomen on their education, livelihood, construction of a barrier among others, Mr Gandhi said that the central government is crushing all small and medium business as they want all business in India to be controlled by big corporates. The views of the Congress is different he said, adding that it wants to strengthen small and medium business which is the strength of this country. Demonetisation,GST and all others are to weaken the small businesses, he said. What Modi government wants is that one or two very rich people control the sea. But we want lakhs of fishermen to control the sea.He said that when he comes here next time, the fishermen should take him to the sea in their fishing boat so that he could understand their real problems.Answering a question pertaining to media, Mr Gandhi said that media is not owned by poor people and it is in the interest of one or two prominent personality in the country. It is very important that the poor people organize themselves. Pointing out that the central government had given away Rs 1.5 lakh crores to the rich people in the country during Covid time and when labourers who wanted to get back to their native places asked for bus or train ticket ,they were not given. The best reason for this is that poor people are not organized. He said that politicians will come and give a speech and go away and do not listen to you. For me it is more important what you think than what I think, he added.
