Chennai: Actor Rajinikanth, who had confirmed his
political entry and is all set to unveil his party plans on the New Year
eve, turned 70 on Saturday.
Members of the Rajini Makkal Mandram (RMM) celebrated the occasion
on a grand manner across the State.
Rajini had a quiet birthday celebrations with his family members at his
farm house on the outskirts of the city.
At the stroke of midnight, RMM members assembled in front of the
actor’s Poes Garden residence and cut a cake to mark the occasion.
The members also performed special pujas in various temples for his
well being and for his success in politics.
Since Rajini was not present in his house, the members gave the
temple prasadams to the security personnel posted at his residence.
Posters hailing and greeting Rajini were also seen in various parts
of the State.
It turned out to be double delight for his fans as the actor, who had
been keeping his fans guessing for nearly three years about his
political stand, at last confirmed that he would start his own political
party next month and would contest the Tamil Nadu Assembly polls
due in April-May next year.
On the occasion of his birthday, it was officially announced that Rajini
will resume shooting for his upcoming film ‘Annaathe’ on December 15.
Extending birthday greetings, production house SUN Pictures, in a
tweet, said the actor would resume shooting from Tuesday.
Prime Minister Narendra Modi, Chief Minister Edappadi K Palaniswmai,
Deputy Chief Minister O Panneerselvam, Leader of the Opposition and
DMK President M K Stalin and leaders of various political parties, actors,
actresses, music maestro A R Rahman and artistes from the Kollywood
greeted Rajinikanth on his birthday.
Mr Modi tweeted ”Dear @rajinikanth Ji, wishing you a Happy Birthday!
May you lead a long and healthy life.”
