Several villages flooded in UP


Lucknow, Flood situation in Uttar Pradesh’s Basti, Bahraich, Sitapur and Barabanki continues to become serious and hundreds of villages have been submerged in these districts. According to information from the Central Water Commission, the Saryu river is flowing half a meter above the danger mark in Ayodhya and 30 centimetres above the danger mark at the Elgin bridge. The Rapti river is near the danger mark in Balrampur while it has crossed the danger mark at Brij Ghat. As per information from Etah, 1,39,398 cusecs of water was released into the Ganga from the Narora dam which has completely severed contact with four villages lying on the banks of the river. The district administration has arranged for boats for movement. It has also established 21 flood outposts and five shelter homes. Apart from that, separate control rooms have been set up at the Tehsil-level. A population of lakhs has been affected in the flooded districts of the state. Three tehsils of Bahraich–Mahsi, Nanpara and Minghipurwa–have been affected by floods and erosion. While dozens of villages have been submerged due to the floods in Ghaghra river in Mahsi tehsil, the destruction caused by Saryu is continuing unabated in Minghipurwa. The Saryu is also causing damage in Nanpara. The Ghaghra and Saryu rivers caused severe damages in nine villages on Tuesday and about 61 homes and 400 bighas of arable land was submerged. Rivers are also in spate in Lakhimpur Kheri. Several areas have been flooded due to rains on the mountains and water released into the Ganga. Ganga is near the danger mark in Badaun while it is flowing one meter above the danger mark in Ballia. This has led to flooding in several villages and standing crops have been damaged. Over 16,000 population has been affected due to the floods in the Basti district and 20 villages have been completely submerged. About 50 villages have been flood-affected. Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath has directed that every possible assistance be given to the flood victims. Individuals complaining of cold, cough or fever in the flood relief camps are being examined separately.
