New Delhi, In a feather in the cap for Bollywood actor Shahid Kapoor, his film ‘Haider’ featured in the list of Top 10 cinematic Hamlets across the globe .Trade sources said that ‘Haider’, directed by Vishal Bhardwaj produced by Siddharth Roy Kapur, and co-written by Basharat Peer featured Shahid Kapoor and Tabu in the lead role, along with Shraddha Kapoor and Kay Kay Menon, features in the list of Top 10 cinematic Hamlets across the globe along with Mel Gibson and Ethan Hawke.Irrfan featured in the film, released in 2014, in an extended special appearance.’Haider’ is the third in the trilogy of Shakespeare classics , after ‘Maqbool’ and ‘Omkara’.The film is both a modern-day adaptation of William Shakespeare’s tragedy ‘Hamlet’ and an adaptation of Basharat Peer’s memoir Curfewed Night, set amidst the insurgency-hit Kashmir conflicts of 1995 and civilian disappearances.The film was released worldwide on 2 October 2014 to wide critical acclaim.Haider was the first Indian film to win the People’s Choice Award at the Rome Film Festival.
Among several awards and nominations in India, the film won five National Film Awards: Best Male Playback Singer, Best Dialogue, Best Choreography, Best Costume Design, and Best Music Direction.
