Top Lashker commander killed in Srinagar encounter

Srinagar: A top commander of Lashker-e-Toiba (LeT) was killed by security forces in an encounter in the Srinagar outskirts, a police spokesman said on Tuesday.

He said on a tip-off about the presence of militants, security forces launched a joint Cordon and Search Operation (CASO) at Malroo, about 13 km from here on Monday afternoon.

He said an encounter ensued when security forces were moving towards a particular area.

He said a top LeT commander Abrar, a Pakistani national, was killed and incriminating material, including arms and ammunition were recovered.

Earlier, Inspector General of Police (IGP) Vijay Kumar had said LeT top commander Nadeem Abrar involved in several killing was arrested.

The IGP, in a tweet yesterday, said: “Top LeT commander Nadeem Abrar #arrested. He was involved in several #killings. Big success for us: IGP Kashmir @JmuKmrPolice.”

Local resident Reyaz Ahmad told UNI that operation has been completed and security forces had left the area. A house was completely damaged, he added.
