Lucknow, BJP candidate Jai Prakash Nishad was on Monday elected unopposed to the Rajya Sabha in the by-election in Uttar Pradesh.The winning certificate was handed over to the winning candidate here at the central hall of the assembly after the expiry of the time for withdrawal of candidature.Senior BJP leader Vijay Bahadur Pathak was present along with Mr Nishad to receive the certificate. Mr Nishad, who was a former state minister in the BSP government, is the regional vice president of the BJP from the Gorakhpur region.The election was necessitated after the death SP member Beni Prasad Verma. He died after a prolonged illness on March 27 this year. BJP managed to wrest the seat from the SP. The tenure of the seat will be till July 4, 2022.
