Jalpaiguri: Thirteen people were killed and 18 injured in an accident
at Dhupguri in Jalpaiguri district of West Bengal last night. The accident happened after a boulder laden truck slipped and rammed into
several vehicles. The injured were taken to a hospital. 13 peoples, including two men, six women and four kids, were killed when the
bus transporting wedding guests to Dhupguri from Churabhandar Lal School met with an accident near Jaldhaka Bridge on the national highway, Jalpaiguri Superspeciality Hospital sources said. According to police, four of the 18 injured were taken to Jalpaiguri Superspecialty Hospital, three to North Bengal Medical College, and one person has been admitted
to Jalpaiguri Sadar Hospital. A senior police official said the circle inspector of Dhupguri and his team reached
the accident spot within 10 minutes of the incident.
He said that several cranes were called in to clear the road which was blocked due to the accident. Prime Minister Narendra Modi in a tweet said, “The road accident in Dhupguri in Jalpaiguri (West Bengal) is extremely anguishing.”
“In this time of sadness, prayers with the bereaved families. May the injured recover
soon: PM @narendramodi,” he added.
West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee saddened at the loss of lives because
of a bus accident in Dhupguri.
Taking to her handle, Ms Banerjee said, ” Saddened at the loss of lives because of
a bus accident in Dhupguri. Condolences to the bereaved families.”
“I pray for a speedy recovery of those injured,” she added.
