NLFT trying to revive insurgency in Tripura : IG BSF

Agartala, A faction of banned outfit National Liberation Front of Tripura (NLFT) led by Biswa Mohan Debbarman has been trying to revive militant activities in Tripura for the past one year, Inspector General (IG) of BSF Tripura Frontier Sushanta Kumar Nath told media on Thursday. He said the intelligence inputs suggest militants have been active in some areas along Indo-Bangladesh border. “Movement of the militant outfits are reported mainly from difficult terrains along the international border. However, necessary measures have been taken to contain their activities,” he said. While indicating the presence of militant camps in Bangladesh, he declined to reveal the details of NLFT’s activities across the border. Around 95 per cent of Indo-Bangla border has been fenced so far but fencing could not be expedited in the remaining areas due to persistent opposition from Bangladesh, he said. “We are in touch with Border Guard of Bangladesh to get their consent, which is required to undertake single line fencing within 150 yards of the border,” he added. Nath pointed out that BSF jawans seized narcotics, contraband items, including gold worth Rs 41.95 Cr last year and cannabis of Rs 9.41 Cr. The BSF have been guarding the border with utmost alacrity and sincerity in very challenging conditions in remote and inhospitable topography, he said.
