Jharaphula Case: Father Threatens To Set Himself On Fire Before Assembly

Bhubaneswar: While police are yet to reveal the details in connection with the sensational Jharaphula Nayak death case, her father Ramakant Nayak has threatened to set himself on fire in front of the Odisha Legislative Assembly here.

Ramakant has blamed the Jajpur police for the alleged tardy progress in the investigation into the case.

Expressing resentment, Ramakant said the Twin City Commissionerate Police managed to crack the case of recovery of a woman’s headless body in Bhubaneswar within seven days while the Jajpur police are yet to make any major headway in the Jharaphula death case despite the arrest of the accused, seizure of the scooter used for carrying the body, recovery of CCTV footage and other related evidences.

On January 26, accused Rakesh Swain and Jharaphula had reached OYO Shiv Sai Guest House at Dharma Vihar in Bhubaneswar and checked into the hotel. They had stayed at room no. 201 of the hotel.

Rakesh found Jharaphula in an unconscious state at the hotel room in the morning of January 27. He then called up his friend Shekhar. While Shekhar drove the scooter, Rakesh rode pillion making the unconscious girl sit between them. They were spotted leaving the place around 7 AM.

Rakesh initially intended to hospitalise Jharaphula at SCB Medical College and Hospital in Cuttack. He realised midway that Jharaphula had died. Rakesh and Shekhar went all the way to Jajpur on the vehicle and allegedly dumped the body on roadside at Mulapala under Kuakhia police limits around 9 AM.
