India reports 9,121 new COVID-19 cases, 81 deaths

New Delhi: India on Tuesday recorded 9,121 new cases of COVID-19 during the past 24 hours, pushing the country’s caseload to 1,09,16,589, while the death toll mounted to 1,55,813 with 81 more fatalities.

According to the Union Health Ministry, the active cases stand at 1,36,872. It is 1.25 per cent of the total caseload.

Of the fresh fatalities, 23 were from Maharashtra, 13 from Kerala and 10 from Punjab and 2 from Karnataka, 5 from Chhattisgarh and 6 from Tamil Nadu.

The past 24 hours saw 11,805 people recovering from the deadly virus, taking the total recovery count to 1,06,33,025, which is 97.32 per cent of the case tally. The fatality rate stood at 1.43 per cent. Kerala has reported the maximum number of single day recoveries with 5,073 newly recovered cases while 3105 recovered in Maharashtra in the past 24 hours.

According to Health Ministry, 18 States/UTs have not reported any death in the last 24 hours.

As per the Indian Council of Medical Research (ICMR), 6,15,664 samples were tested on Monday.

The number of people who got vaccinated under the nation’s vaccination drive commenced on January 16 has reached 87,20,822, with 4,35,527 more people getting vaccinated in the last 24 hours.

Globally, the disease has infected 109,134,308, as per the John Hopkins University coronavirus tracker.
