Each citizen of India is not new to democracy & always having a soft corner for the same since independence. In a democratic country citizen is supreme from the constitutional point of view, who is a watchdog of the GOVT, opposition, administration to keep peace & harmony. Everybody knows since 15 months, country is passing a tough period for corona. From Kashmir to Kanyakumari corona pandemic after showing its strength in 1st phase, again the 2nd phase started since 1st week of April. Within a short period number of infected people has been doubled even in a state like Odisha. The surge in pandemic has been taken seriously by Madras HC with remark that the poll body was singularly responsible for the cov-19 surge & it should probably be booked for murder for failing to maintain corona virus protocols during election campaigns which has been challenged by the Election Commission of India (ECI) in the highest court of the country. Hearing the plea of the ECI, the top court’s bench consisting justice D Y Chandrachud & M R Shah told, “sometimes observations are made in larger public interest & you should accept it in right spirit as a bitter pill” even the bench expressed that they don’t want to ‘demoralize’ High Courts. Also ECI submitted before the bench that to stop media from reporting oral observations made by judges & such harsh remarks should not be made against a constitutional boy. To this the bench pointed out that after the sharp remarks of the HC the ECI took steps & subsequent decisions have improved the system. Here one thing is important to remember that both HC & Supreme Court along with ECI are constitutional bodies & also watchdogs in different sphere to strengthen one point, that is democracy. Media & High Courts are also considered as pillars of the democracy. So, each citizen’s fundamental necessity is to be given priority first & next is to strengthen democratic process of the country. Mamata Banarjee’s defeat or TMC win in West Bengal or Stalin’s wining matters little in front of the precious life of any citizen.
