Odisha reports highest single day spike of 12,582 cases

Bhubaneswar: Odisha reported a highest ever single day spike of 12,852 COVID-19 cases and 28 deaths in the past 24 hours.

It is for the fourth time during May, the single day covid infection surpassed 12,000 mark .Earlier on May 6 May 13 and May 20 Odisha reported more than 12,000 positive cases.

While on May 6, as many as 12,238 covid cases were registered, on May 13 the numbers shut up to 12,390 which further jumped to 12,523 on May 20 and finally on May 22 the number rose to 12,852.

The state also reported 28 covid deaths in the past 24 hours taking the total Covid fatalities to 2484 while the active cases continued to remain over one lakh consecutively for the last eleven days.The active cases have gone up from 1,01,313 on May 12 to 1,11,182 in the past 24 hours.

Official sources said till midnight of May 22 as many as 1,13,08,564 tests were conducted in the state and 6,92,382(almost 6.12 percent) of them were found infected with the coronavirus.

On Saturday 10601 covid patients were cured in the state taking the total recoveries so far to 5,77,983.

Health and family Welfare department sources said 67,156 tests were conducted on May 22 in the state out of which 12,852 were found infected with covid 19 from all the 30 districts.

They included 7195 from the quarantine centres and 5657 as local contact cases.

Khordha district topped the list with 1909 cases followed by Cuttack( 1073),Angul( 874), Sundargarh (848),Kalahandi(668),Mayurbhanj ( 586),Balasore ( 508).

Khordha district has so far reported the highest number of 1,05,608 positive cases,89,035 recovery and 16,128 active cases.It has also registered the maximum number of 435 covid deaths.

Out of 28 deaths reported during the last 24 hours, Khordha has the maximum number of five fatalities followed by four each in Kalahandi and Sundargarh, three each in Angul and Kendrapara and two each in Nabarangpur, Puri and Rayagada and one each in Gajapati and Ganjam district.

Odisha Government on Saturday launched a Covid Test Report website to help people check their Covid test status .

Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik said the Covid Test Report website is part of 5T initiative to ensure that the test report status are available to people in a very convenient way.

Mr.Patnaik further said the capacity to conduct RT-PCR testing has been significantly increased by setting up RT-PCR test centres across most districts where service will be provided to people every day, strengthening the fight against the pandemic.
