Covid tally surges to 8,42,461 with 5235 new cases in Odisha

Bhubaneswar: The covid tally in Odisha today surged to 8,42,461 with the fresh detection of 5235 cases from 30 districts in the past 24 hours.

At the same time, the fatalities in the state rose to 3210 after 43 more covid patients from 17 districts in the state succumbed to the virus in the past 24 hours.

The recovery has gone up to 7,72,972 with 8299 covid patients being cured of the virus on Thursday and the active cases further reduced to 66,226.

Health and Family Welfare department sources said 2957 new infection cases and 2278 local contact cases were reported in the state in the past 24 hours.

Khordha district registered the highest number of 726 cases followed by Cuttack ( 557), Jajpur ( 397), Balasore (320),Mayurbhanj(285), Angul (277) and Sundargarh (251).

Out of 43 deaths reported in the state, Khordha district accounted for five followed by four each in Angul, Bargarh, Cuttack and Sundargarh district.

Three people each died in two districts, two each in six districts and one each in four districts.

Official sources said at least eleven districts, nine from Western Odisha and two from Southern Odisha have reported a total positivity rate of less than 5 per cent, the lowest being registered in Nuapada district( 1.6 per cent).

On the other hand, eight, coastal and northern Odisha districts have reported TPR over 11 per cent, the highest being registered in Puri district ( 16.3 per cent ).

Meanwhile, the Odisha government has strengthened the enforcement drive across the state with the deployment of 161 platoons of police forces keeping given the raja festival, a major festival is celebrated for three days by unmarried girls across the state.

Additional Director General of Police ( Law and Order), Yashwant Jethwa said since April 1, the government has initiated proceedings against 4,76,000 violators of covid guidelines, collected fine to the tune of Rs.14.58 crore, sealed 3500 shops and other institutions, seized 29,000 vehicles and arrested 1332 people in the state.

MrJethwaand Commissioner of police Soumendra Priyadarshi has appealed to people to strictly adhere to Covid Appropriate behaviour along with guidelines for Lockdown and weekend Shutdowns.
Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik claimed that many people are getting a new life from COVID- 19 through emergency health care helpline No 104.

He said the precious lives of people in the state are saved by regular health check-ups as well as medical advice and smooth arrangements for hospitalization.
