India beats Argentina 3-1 in men’s hockey, seals its place in quarter-finals

Tokyo: Indian men’s hockey scored two late goals to register an emphatic 3-1 victory over defending Olympic champions Argentina in the penultimate Pool A match to book a place in the quarter finals here at the Tokyo Olympics on Thursday.

For India Varun Kumar (43rd minute), Vivek Sagar Prasad (58th minute) and Harmanpreet Singh (59th minute) were the goal scorers, while Maico Casella (48th minute) scored for Argentina.

India is currently placed second in their group after garnering nine points from four matches behind world No. 2 Australia (12 points).

Only the top four teams from each group will go in to the quarter-finals. India will play their final group match against hosts Japan on Friday.
