Former SP leader and RS MP Amar Singh passes away in Singapore

NEW DELHI: Rajya Sabha member and former Samajwadi Party leader Amar Singh passed away in Singapore on Saturday. He was 64.
Singh was undergoing treatment in Singapore for kidney-related ailments over the past few months.
Singh’s long association with the SP came to an end after he was expelled from the Akhilesh Yadav-led party in 2017. The party had earlier expelled Singh in 2010 but reinstated him after a few years.
Several political leaders mourned Amar Singh, remembering him as a leader who had made friends across the political spectrum. Expressing grief over the veteran politician’s death, defence minister Rajnath Singh said that Amar Singh, who was known for his jovial nature, had a friendly association with all political parties. Madhya Pradesh chief minister Shivraj Singh tweeted: “Just received the tragic news of the demise of Rajya Sabha MP Shri Amar Singh. May god give peace to his soul and strength to his family to bear the loss. My condolences are with him. Om Shanti”
“Amar Singh MP and a person I have known for long, died today. Although he was mostly with SP, but he made friends across the spectrum of political parties.My condolences to his family,” said BJP Rajya Sabha MP Subramanian Swamy.
