Vijayawada, in a tragic road accident, a woman and her son were killed and her husband and infant-son escaped when the car in which they were travelling plunged into an irrigation canal at Chodavaram village near here in the wee hours of Tuesday. Police said that the deceased Vissamshetti Durga Mahalakshmi (32), her son V Srimanth 6), her husband Kiran Kumar and 11-month-old infant son were going to Penumaka village from Avanigadda on the Karakatta road in the ill-fated car. The car veered off the road as the driver lost control of it resulting in it plunged into the irrigation canal killing the woman and her son instantaneously. However the husband of the deceased woman Kiran Kumar and infant-son escaped unhurt. Penamaluru Circle Inspector Satyanarayana and Tahasilkar Bhadru visited the scene of the accident. The ill-fated car was retrieved from the canal and the bodies were shifted to the government hospital for postmortem.
