Palghar, Banned tobacco products worth Rs 18.47 lakh were seized while a 28-year-old man was arrested for being allegedly involved in smuggling the contraband, police said here on Thursday.The accused has been identified as Kantilal Meena, a Rajasthan native.In the wee hours of Wednesday, a patrolling party from the Kasa police station spotted the moving container near Chanivare village. The vehicle was stopped and the tobacco products concealed in gunny bags were discovered upon search, stated police.The Rs 13.47 lakh container, coming from Gujarat, was also impounded, taking the total seizure value to Rs 31.95 lakh. The driver managed to escape but the vehicle’s owner Meena was held, apprised police.Offenses against the accused have been filed under relevant IPC sections as well as The Motor Vehicles Act.
