Srinagar: An Army soldier committed suicide by shooting self with his service rifle in central Kashmir district of Budgam on Friday.Official sources said that panic gripped Old Air Field in Budgam when a gunshot was heard on Friday. “Soldiers deployed there rushed to the area from where the gunshot was heard and found a jawan in a pool of blood,” they said.They said jawan, identified as Lance Naik Omprakash, had died on the spot. “It was not immediately clear why he took this extreme step,” they said, adding police has registered a case and initiated investigation to ascertain the circumstances which forced him to commit suicide.
