Lucknow, Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath expressing grief over the demise of former Union minister and senior leader of Bihar Raghuvansh Prasad Singh in Delhi on Sunday, said he will be remembered for his simplicity and honesty. In his condolence message, the UP CM said, “coming from a rural background Raghuvansh Prasad Singh will be remembered for ever for his simplicity and honesty”.
He said Singh had helped in bringing development to villages when he was the Union Rural Development minister.
The CM said the Bihar leader was known for his political understandings.
Singh passed away at All India Institutes of Medical Sciences (AIIMS) here. The 74-year-old leader was admitted to the hospital since a week after developing post-Covid-19 complications and was put on a ventilator support.
He was the architect of Mahatma Gandhi National Rural Employment Guarantee Act (MNREGA),an unique scheme for rural employment in India, launched in 2006 during his tenure as the Union Minister for Rural Development.
He recently resigned from the primary membership of Rashtriya Janata Dal.
Singh is survived by two sons and a daughter.
