Puducherry, People of Muthialpet here on Tuesday put up a road blockade to protest against the increased electricity bill.It may be noted that due to the Covid lockdown, meter reading was not taken by the electricity department for the last five months and presently, the power tariff for the past five months was calculated together and the bill was sent to the consumers.Since, huge amount was to be paid, alleging mistakes in the bill, the public today approached the authorities at Muthialpet which turned into an altercation.Agitated over this, the people resorted to a road blockade.They did not heed and police intervened and asked them to disperse.Following this, Muthialpet legislator Vayyapuri Manikandan held talks with them and invited the Electricity Department Executive Engineer to the spot. The E E Kaniyamudhan rushed to the spot and the legislator requested him to hold a meeting and explain to the people the mode of calculation and to correct the mistakes if any.Accepting this, Mr Kaniyamudhan informed them that a meeting will be conducted on next Thursday.
