Berhampur: In a shocking incident, a youth allegedly slit the throat of his father for money in Odisha. Police arrested the accused person identified as Dhoba, son of Surendra Pradhan of Byaghradevi Sahi under Buguda police limits in Ganjam district. According to preliminary information, Surendra was working as a daily labourer in Andhra Pradesh. During lockdown, he had returned to his village due to rapid spread of COVID-19 infections in the neighbouring State.
Instead of taking responsibilities of the family on his shoulders, his only son Dhoba was spending his time with friends, who were jobless. Financially, he was dependent on his poor father, who was struggling for livelihood.
As Surendra was not able to bear his son’s daily expenses, the duo indulged in scuffle following which the 22-year-old youth slit his father’s throat with a sharp knife used for cutting thermocol. He ran off leaving his father in a pool of blood.
The neighbourers rushed the victim to the PHC in Buguda. After his condition deteriorated, he was shifted to the MKCG Medical College & Hospital in Berhampur.
On receiving information, police registered a case and managed to apprehend the accused, who was at large.
