New Delhi, Ahead of the Bengal Assembly elections, political situation in the state is under “suspense” as rebel Trinamool Congress veteran and former key minister Suvendu Adhikari is maintaining a “disquieting silence” on his political future. In his first rally on Sunday, at Mahisadal in East Midnapore, since resigning from the Mamata Banerjee government on November 27, Mr Adhikari stayed “mum” on Trinamool and instead portrayed himself as a “people’s servant” who would continue to work for people.”People should have the final word. The Constitution of the country emphasises it is ‘for the people,of the people and by the people.’ Every arrangement under it should put people first. It is their overwhelming support that will help me to continue to work for them,” the Trinamool rebel said without mentioning about the party. While resigning from the cabinet and the chairmanship of the Haldia Development Authority (HDA) on Friday, Mr Adhikari chose to retain his Assembly seat and the primary membership of what he said had become “a one-person party.”According to sources, Mr Adhikari might go to Nandigram on Monday.Informatively, Mr Adhikari played a major role in the Nandigram agitation that propelled Ms Mamata Banerjee to office. He has several apolitical programmes lined up till mid-December. Amid speculations of the former state Transport and Irrigation Minister’s resignation also from the party, Bengal minister Bratya Basu said ” He (Adhikari) is still in the party….Party leaders may leave the party, but a party is made by its workers.”Meanwhile, Trinamool supremo and Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee is scheduled to address a public meeting in West Midnapore on December 7.
