Bhubaneswar: The Twin City Commissionerate Police will take Akash Kumar Pathak, who is accused of impersonating himself as Managing Director of Tata Motors Limited (TML) and duping job seekers and a travel agency, on remand for further investigation, said Police Commissioner Sudhanshu Sarangi today.

During the remand period, signature samples of Akash Kumar Pathak will be collected and sent to the Handwriting Bureau for examining the veracity of his signatures on the appointment letters issued by him to job seekers, said Sarangi.

TML had lodged a complaint with the Crime Branch of Odisha Police against Akash Kumar Pathak accusing him of committing forgery by impersonating as its MD. The company in its FIR had mentioned that Akash took huge amount of money fraudulently from unemployed youths on the pretext of providing them job in Tata Motors Limited.

The Commissionerate Police had also registered a case against Akash and his father Abhay Kant Pathak, suspended IFS officer, for allegedly cheating a travel agency of more than Rs 65 lakh. As per the complainant, Akash Kumar Pathak impersonated himself as Managing Director of Tata Motors Limited and sent mails and other forged documents and booked chartered flights and hotels worth Rs 2.78 crore since June, 2020. While Rs 2.13 crore was paid to the travel agency, the accused allegedly refused to clear the dues.

The father-son duo was arrested by the Odisha Vigilance on charges of amassing assets worth crores disproportionate to known sources of income.
