Pink Test, Day 2: Ashwin’s triple strike help India reduce Australia to 92/5 at tea


Adelaide: Ravichandran Ashwin picked three quick wickets and helped India reduce Australia to 92/5 at tea on the second day of the day-night Test, here at the Adelaide Oval on Friday.

Marnus Labuschagne (46) and Tim Paine (9) were at the crease for the home team at the end of the second session.

Resuming at 35/2 after the break, Australia scored 57 runs for the loss of 3 wickets with all the scalps going to Ravichandran Ashwin during the crucial second session.

Ashwin jolted Australia by picking up three crucial wickets – Steve Smith (1), Travis Head (7) and Cameron Green (11).

Earlier in the day, Jasprit Bumrah had trapped Joe Burns (8) and Mathew Wade (8) leg before in the first session of the day.

Resuming the day at 233/6, Indian lower order couldn’t contribute much and the visitors were all out for 244 in the first innings.

Overnight batsmen Ravichandran Ashwin (15) and Wriddhiman Saha (9) got back to the dressing room within the first two overs bowled by Pat Cummins and Mitchell Starc respectively.

Umesh Yadav (6) and Mohammad Shami (0) were the last two wickets to fall as Indian innings came to an end after adding just 11 runs to the overnight score. Bumrah remained unbeaten on 4.
