AIDS IN INDIA

HIV virus brings the dreaded disease AIDS. Throughout the World, it creates panic inside the society as there is no vaccination. In India, with thick population and many mega cities, it spreads quickly. To get medical treatment regularly the government started effort from 20th century’s last decade. Since 30 years India succeeded in its HIV reducing plan. According to estimation, within 2001-03, HIV throughout India stood at 0.38 percent, whereas till the year 2017, AIDS started reducing in a slow pace. Here, one thing can be told that the HIV infection in India was at peak in 1995. Also, between 2010-17, HIV reduction level was 27 percent. In 2017, the number of people suffering from AIDS in Maharashtra was 3.30 lakh, in Andhra 2.70 lakh, in Karnataka 2.47 lakh, in Telengana 2.04 lakh, in West Bengal 1.44 lakh, in Tamilnadu 1.42lakh, in UP 1.34 lakh and in Bihar 1.5 lakh whereas in all other states less than one lakh were too suffering. In Odisha, being in last category the number stood at 37,559 out of which 25,272 are male. As the number is reducing day by day without any vaccination, it implies people are more conscious of this dreaded disease. Also the government has decided to open five new Anti retro viral centre in Odisha and the number of ART will be 19 after the same. With unprotected sexual relationship, infected blood, infected needle and syringe, HIV spreads. According to medical experts in Odisha till 2020, October 20th, 52 thousand HIV prevelance has been estimated. Out of this major portion are there in Ganjam, Angul, Balesore, Bolangir, Bhadrak, Koraput and Khordha. As WHO has declared World AIDS Day in 1st December of each year, today the whole world is observing the same with the theme “World Unity and Members Responsibility”. So, let everybody should be conscious to keep himself and people around, from HIV as the world is yet to make a vaccine.
