Puducherry, Chief Minister V Narayanasamy on Wednesday conducted a surprise check in the Chief Secretariat to find out that all employees are attending work properly.Later talking to newspersons, he said that when lockdown was imposed on March 25, it was directed that one third of the government employees should only come to the office and all secretaries should attend duty.After the fourth round of relaxation of lockdown by the Central government it was advised that 100 percent of the employees should attend duty.However, of the total 24 secretaries here, five were not in their office and only 90 percent of the employees attended duty, the Chief Minister said and reiterated that all the employees should attend duty failing which stringent action would be initiated against the absentees.Mr Narayanasamy said that he met the Chief Secretary and apprised him that it is the duty of the Secretaries and Head of the Departments to monitor whether all employees are attending duty and the Ministers will monitor them.Pointing out that the state revenue was drastically reduced because of the lockdown, the Chief Minister said that steps are being taken to enhance the revenue.He said the Chief Minister’s COVID relief fund is being utilized to purchase required equipment, PPE Kits, Ventilators and for the appointment of the required health staff and added that the Union Government had failed to provide any fund including the GST compensation and the grant due to the UT.Mr Narayanasamy said all steps are being taken to enhance the number of sample tests to over 3,000 a day and added that the Vector Control Research Center (VCRC) here had agreed to conduct 500 tests a day.Appealing to those with fever to immediately consult a doctor instead of self-medication, the Chief Minister said that people with other diseases should be more careful.Co-morbidity is the main cause for the death rate which crossed 300 in Puducherry, he added.The government is taking all possible steps to check the spread of COVID here and to enhance the financial position in the Union Territory, Mr Narayanasamy said.
