Covid tally continues to dip below 4000 marks in Odisha

Bhubaneswar: For the fifth consecutive day the daily covid positive cases in Odisha dipped to below 4000 marks.

As many as 3427 new cases were reported in the past 24 hours pushing the covid tally in the state to 8,73,925.

During the period 42 covid patients undergoing treatment at various covid hospitals succumbed to the virus taking the total fatalities in the state to 3550.

With the recovery of 6252 people on Friday, the total recoveries in the state jumped to 8,29,851 while the active cases further dipped to 40,471.

Health and Family Welfare department sources said at least 16 districts in the state now have less than 1000 cases and ten districts have between 1001 to 2500 cases.

Four districts such as Khordha, Cuttack, Jajpur and Balasore have active cases of more than 2501 with Khordha registering the highest number of 6,410 cases.

These four districts together accounted for 42.1 per cent of the total active cases in the state.

In the past 24 hours, 42 covid deaths were reported from 15 districts. Khordha registered the highest number of six deaths followed by four each in Cuttack, Jharsuguda, Puri and Sundargarh district. Three each died in Balasore, Kendrapara and Koraput district while two each succumbed to the virus in four districts and one each in three districts.

Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik on Friday laid the foundation stone for eight PSA plants one each in eight districts. Earlier on June 9,

Mr Patnaik had laid the foundation stone of eight PSA plants.
Altogether 20 PSA plants would be set up in the state to produce 24,000 litres of medical oxygen per minute.

Meanwhile, Additional Chief Secretary (health) PK Mohapatra has asked all the district collectors in the state to vaccinate all eligible people living with HIV on priority.

The Collectors were directed to mobilize the HIV patients through onsite registration on the CoWin portal at the nearby vaccination centre at the earliest.

Mr Mohapatra said the state government has taken all possible measures for the care of children and adolescents given the report of incidence of covid 19 cases among the children and adolescents and the possibility of an n increase in covid cases in future as predicted by Health experts.
