Flamengo eye move for Argentinian defender Vigo

Rio De Janeiro, Flamengo have initiated talks with Newell’s Old Boys about a possible deal to sign defender Alex Vigo, according to the player’s agent. The interest comes as the reigning Brazilian Serie A champions seek a backup for former Bayern Munich right-back Rafinha, who will turn 35 next month. “It’s true that Flamengo have inquired,” the Argentinian’s representative, Leonardo Varino, was quoted as saying by the Gazeta Esportiva news portal. “There hasn’t been an offer made. They just asked for information about him and wanted to know how much he would cost.” Vigo is tied to Newell’s until 2023 but he reportedly does not have a buyout clause in his contract. The 21-year-old has played 37 matches since making his debut for the Argentinian Superliga side in 2018. Flamengo’s current reserve right-back options include Joao Lucas and Matheuzinho, who have played just nine matches between them for Flamengo’s first team.
