Golden Grand Prix in Tokyo:Japanese record-holders

Tokyo, Four Japanese national record-holders are confirmed to participate in the World Athletics Continental Tour Gold meeting in Tokyo on 23 August, the organizers of the Seiko Golden Grand Prix said on Thursday.World U20 3000m champion Nozomi Tanaka, who won four consecutive races last month and broke the Japanese record in the event with 8:41.35 in Fukagawa, will contest the 1500m in Tokyo. Sprint hurdlers Shunya Takayama and Asuka Terada will also be in action at the Seiko Golden Grand Prix. Takayama holds the 100m hurdles record in 13.25 seconds, while Terada is the first woman in the country who clocked 12.97 seconds in 100m hurdles. “I am so happy to race at the Seiko Golden Grand Prix 2020 Tokyo,” said Terada. “We are fortunate to have this event despite the pandemic. From the bottom of my heart, I’d like to express my respect and gratitude to all the medical workers and people involved in preparing this stage on which we feel safe and we can focus on our performance.” Sho Kawamoto is the fourth national record-holder who will be racing in Tokyo in late August. The 27-year-old won the 800m at the 2014 Seiko Golden in a Japanese record of 1:45.75. In addition, Olympic medallists in 4x100m relay Shota Iizuka and Kirara Shiraishi will compete in men’s 200m.
