New Delhi: Union Home Minister Amit Shah assured all possible help to Assam after the state was hit by three back to back earthquakes on Wednesday morning.
Taking to twitter, he said, “Have spoken to the Chief Minister of Assam,Shri @sarnbanadsonwal ji, to assess the condition in different parts of state after an earthquake. The Central Government stands firmly with our sisters and brothers of Assam, Praying for everyone safety and well-being”.
Three back to back earthquakes hit Assam, the strongest being of 6.4 magnitude on Richter scale at 0751 hrs that shook Sonitpur district. Tremors were felt in Meghalaya and parts of North Bengal, the officials said.
It was followed by two more quakes of 4.3 and 4.4 magnitudes at 0758 and 0801 hrs respectively.
Most parts of the region felt the impact of the massive earthquake as people ran out of their homes and other places in panic while many buildings in Tezpur, the district headquarters of Sonitpur, Guwahati and other places developed cracks.
