New Delhi:India has logged 1,45,384 fresh coronavirus infections in the past 24 hours, the highest-ever single-day surge since the start of the pandemic, pushing the tally to 1,32,05,0926, the Ministry of health and Family Welfare said here on Saturday.
As many as 794 people succumbed during the same period taking the total fatalities so far to1,68,436, the data showed.
With active cases inching towards the 1-million mark, the country has emerged as the fourth-worst hit country.
Number of active coronavirus cases in the country has gone up to 10,46,631, accounting for 7.93 per cent of its total caseload, while the recovery rate has further dropped to 90.80 per cent.
According to the Ministry, of the tally, Maharashtra accounts for 3,288,540 cases, Kerala– 1,154,594, Karnataka–1,033,560, Andhra Pradesh– 913,274 and Tamil Nadu– 9,11,110.
The number of people who have recuperated from the disease has surged to 1,19,90,859, while the case fatality rate has further dropped to 1.28 per cent, the data stated.
More than 11 lakh samples have been tested till Friday, while over 13 lakh tests were carried out between Thursday and Friday.
According to the Indian Council of Medical Research (ICMR), as many as 11,73,219 samples tests for the viral disease were conducted on Friday taking total tests till now to 25,52,14,80.
Meanwhile, the infections rise unabated across the globe with 135,276,385 infected by the deadly contagion till date.
While number of recoveries stand at 108,848,402, a total of 2,927,491 people have succumbed to the deadly virus so far.
The US continues to be the worst-hit country with 31,800,724 with Brazil, India, France and Russia following it.
In terms of active cases, US is ahead followed by France, Brazil, India and Belgium.
