Aurangabad (Maharashtra), Jay Malhar Sena on Thursday formed a 60-km-long human chain, protesting against the state government for not accepting the long-pending demand of including the Dhangar community in the Scheduled Tribes category. Led by their leader Lahu Sevale, the protestors resorted to the unique agitation of forming human chain, starting from the Horticulture Minister Sandipan Bhumre’s Garkheda residence here and going all the way to the Union MoS Raosaheb Danve’s residence in Jalna district. Protesting against the “government’s apathy towards Dhangars”, they averred, “The community is listed on 36th position in the ST table. The different documents of state and central governments have already proved that Dhangars are from Maharashtra.” “But, we are still deprived to get the benefits of the ST since last 65 years,” they added. They further said, “The past BJP-led government also promised us but failed to keep its’ word. During Assembly session, CM Uddhav Thackeray has also promised that Dhangars should get ST benefits.””Our demand is that the state cabinet should send recommendation to the Centre in this regards. While, the Union government should announce ST benefits to Dhangars without any further delay,” they sought. In a warning to the state government, they asserted that if the demand isn’t met, agitation will be intensified in the month of December. Leaders Vittalrao Rabdade, Subhash Mane and Vittal Korde also marked their presence.
